TRANSLATION
I started as a novice translator in 1974, while still a student at Humboldt-Universität Zu Berlin, nevertheless, soon developed my own style in translating texts.
My desire to work for a large company became a reality when I joined the BBC in early 1980. I was offered a chance to work for the BBC World Service, Hindi Section, so I joined as a freelance Hindi translator and broadcaster (1981—1983). The outstanding training I received at the BBC elevated my translation proficiency and introduced me to the world of professional journalism and international broadcasting.
Since leaving the BBC, I have worked as a translator/interpreter/proofreader for the government: Translator/Interpreter for Leeds city Council (1988—1990) and for City of Edinburgh Council (2005—2018).
I have also worked for private companies such as Global Connects, Strategic Agenda, First Edition Translations, Language Consulting Congressi SrL, Bristol Translation and Transcription Service and many more.
Later, when I joined the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL) as a member, I took many courses, webinars and attended workshops to further strengthen my knowledge and expertise such as:
How to carry out a Literary Translation Project, Legal Translation, Digital Marketing, Freelance Careers, Content Design for Translators, Translation Gone Wrong, Top Tips for Terminology Research for Translators, CIOL's Roundtable - Freelance Linguists: Navigating careers in a changing Profession and many more.
Furthermore, I took courses with other providers to augment my translation know-how such as:
University of Bristol's - Bristol Translates Summer School Program
Association of Interpreters and Translators (AIT) - How AI is changing the language profession and industry
UCL's Centre of Translation Studies - Introduction to MemoQ
Wordfast LLC's - Wordfast level I & II
